Ask Zero-Three about their work
"The archives are at the arse-end of the resource and acquisition division," explains Zero-Three. "Our division interfaces with all the others: we need to allocate resources across the faction, put in orders for exchanges with the other factions, and supply intel on what resources most need to be found or captured in the field. As well as nagging everyone to return loaned items on time. At least it's varied - no two days are ever the same."
Ask Zero-Three about themself
"How long have you been working here?" you ask by way of casual conversation.
That seems to have caught Zero-Three off-guard. "I… actually don't know," they say at last. "If you'd asked me that a few weeks ago, I would have said I've been here seven months in this base, and before that I was stationed in the same base I was built. But you made me realise that I had hardly any memories of my previous base, or of coming here. It's almost as though I was assembled seven months ago and given implanted memories. …I know I ought to go to the medical wing and get scanned, but… it's scary. …I'm sorry, I shouldn't have burdened you with that. You only just got here yourself, didn't you?"
Well, shit.
"I wonder…" continues Zero-Three, apparently to themself. "Did I delete my own memories? If so, maybe I had a good reason. Maybe I'd be better off going back to the base I supposedly came from to see if it activates any memories."
Maybe you'd better leave them to it.
