Fish
A projection of a purple koi carp appears on the floor, as if viewed from above. It clearly stands out against the black marble-like material. It has a little 'swim' around your feet, then disappears as if into murky depths.
A resident TV notices you watching the projected fish, and explains: "Maintaining a real koi pond in the lobby would be impractical, so some of the scientists animated and coded the projected fish as a little passion project. They only appear if you stand still long enough, to maintain the illusion that they're creatures. They move away if it looks as though they're going to get trodden on."
