Voidwalkers Outpost

Assignments

The supply depot

"A squad of four cams infiltrated an Astro supply depot to gather intel," Seifar begins explaining. "Mainly to find out the location of whatever outpost that depot is supplying. Unfortunately, they were discovered, and they took heavy damage. They're recovering at their home base and they'll pull through, but we have incomplete mission data. On top of that, the cams don't remember all that happened because they got hit so hard it fragmented their short-term memory. It would help me if you could review the pieces of recordings and put together what happened."

Seifar hands you a dossier of materials. You skim through it and gather that between them, the cams recovered enough data to find the co-ordinates of the Astro outpost supplied by the depot. It's a question of putting it together.

Your assignment is to find the co-ordinates that Seifar is looking for. They will be in the form of four fragments, each with two digits.

When you think you have them, enter them into a mapping site/app (OpenStreetMap or whatever) as decimal degrees, in the form XX.XX,XX.XX (where the Xs represent the digits you've found).

The name of the island at these co-ordinates is your reward code, which will let you turn in this assignment.

Not sure what to do with a reward code once you've got one? You can ask Seifar at the commissary.

It seems the cams split up to infiltrate four areas in an Astro supply depot:

  • The refinery, where various crude gels and juices are refined in blast furnaces into fuels and lubricants.
  • The juicing hall, where bodily fluids are harvested from low-ranking Astros to make rejuvenating salves for higher-ranking ones. (Further intel suggests that newly-minted Astros from freshly-conquered worlds have to serve their duty here before they can be permitted to climb the ranks.)
  • The punishment centre, where disobedient or under-performing Astro grunts are punished for their wrong-doing.
  • The storage centre, full of drums, crates, and preserved alien specimens in tanks of gel.

The four cams gave testimony about what they encountered:

  • Zero Downtime's testimony: "I feel lucky that nothing exciting happened to me. Well, until the attack that disrupted the mission. Load of crates. Some vats with horrible little creatures in stasis. A dead specimen preserved in gel. It was fun poking it with a stick."
  • Gore Whore's testimony: "I infiltrated an area in which I saw Astro grunts restrained in stocks and pillories and wearing o-ring gags. It looked as though other Astros were free to wander among them and… make whatever 'contributions' they wished. …Was kinda hot. Shit, redact that, please."
  • Hot Sauce's testimony: "I saw an Astro being fitted for its new armour. While that was going on, another Astro sliced its torso open and grey membranes flopped out. The Astro doing the slicing caught all the slime and egg-like pods that fell out, then stitched the unfortunate one back together."
  • Invisible Sun's testimony: "The area I cased was very hot. Even if my recordings hadn't been damaged, I would have had a hard time collecting useful footage. It was hot enough that I ended up with condensation behind my cover-glass."

The information you can glean from the fragmented recordings:

  • Gore Whore recovered the fragment '01'.
  • The code fragment recovered by Invisible Sun forms the first segment of the co-ordinates.
  • Hot Sauce's fragment comes after Gore Whore's in the sequence.
  • Zero Downtime recovered either the fragment '72' or '37'. ("I found two sets of co-ordinates, and was able to eliminate one of them as a location we'd already discovered. My recording preserved the final fragment of both sets, but I'm missing the memory of which was which.")
  • One of the fragments was the same as the atomic number of chromium.
  • The code fragment recovered from the refinery was the same as the atomic number of terbium.
  • None of the fragments match the atomic number of rubidium.
  • The code fragment recovered from storage forms the last part of the sequence.

Mission failed? You can go back to the commissary or lobby.
